What can one take away from an evening in Erdinger?
I was booked into a tiny boutique hotel in a nearby town during a business trip to the Munich International Airport. My host drove me into this charming Bavarian town and I immediately felt at home.
I didn’t take me long to figure out Erdinger was major beer brewing town. The signs were everywhere. Literally. Although I didn’t have time to visit the actual brewery the name stuck.
When I got home I ran into Gunter, a native German who had immigrated to Canada many years before and had not been home since. He was very excited to hear of my visit and by coincidence he was booked to return to Germany in the next couple of weeks. In fact, he was going to the Erdinger Brewery for a full tour.
My intrigue led me to the local Manitoba Liquor Commission outlet in our town which is known as the busiest alcohol beverage dispensary in the province. The lady in charge checked the computer listing and sure enough they could easily get in Erdinger Beer. Several days later I was able to buy a 6 pack of traditionally brewed wheat beer. Several weeks later the store couldn’t stock the shelves fast enough. Erdinger Beer had become hit in my home town.
So what did I take away? 125 years of wheat beer brewing experience enjoyed on my lake front deck. Erdinger Beer
Although Beer was prevalent, Bratwurst was harder to find.
